Saturday – I finished Stage 1 of the Hundred Miles To Nowhere. I am comfortably in first place.
I took the dude with me to Silver Comet. We rode 20 miles and had a blast. We went over bridges, through a tunnel and past a golf course. We saw a lot of dogs and evil blood thirsty squirrels. One of those evil bastards tried to wreck me… but that is a post for another time.
I was comfortably in front until the end. The Dude tried to beat to the line in a sprint. After a day of drafting off me I thought it was cheeky of him to try to take the yellow jersey. Fortunately he was strapped to his seat and could not get around me.
Tomorrow: Stage 2 will feature a mountain bike loop. Stage 3 will be a parking lot loop.
I hope I can stay in front of the competition.
SUNDAY – Mountain Bike Stage has been suspended. It rained a lot last night. Riding in mud is fun. Riding though puddles is fun. Riding in a circle for 20 miles through puddles and mud… not fun. Dangerous too.
I am going to add a Central Park loop, Discovery point loop and a Knox loop. If the rain returns it will be inside for me.
UPDATE: I have completed 47 miles today on the trainer in the basement. I knocked out 7 this morning before the rain came. Unfortunately the battery on my GPS Indoor sensor is shot. I think I have a spare. Otherwise I will guess (avg 30 mph inside). I still may try to the last few miles on the mountain bike.
UPDATE #2: Five miles to go. Will finish on mountain bike.
I am FINISHED!!!
I am happy to be finished… relieved to be finished. It was quite an adventure. Next year I will either do the entire thing on my trainer – or the entire thing outside. Knox Elementary has a great parking lot – it is a half mile loop. I hope to get others in the hood to participate next year.
I could also go to the Y to use their spin class room – that would be pretty cool too. About 3 hours would do it.
I’ll provide a detailed wrap up and some GPS routes in the next day or so.
The best part: Riding 20 with the Dude.
wow. the ride to nowhere sounds exciting….first place so far? amazing. did you see other compititors or did you leave them all in the dust? cant believe Evil Squirrel tried to attack again…guess The Dude stopped him…..
This time it was personal.
[...] I have been forced into the basement for riding too. Swimming is boring, but I am moving. On a stationary bike I pedal like a fool and do not move. Swimming lasts thirty to forty minutes while cycling may last one to two hours. In my basement I have my PS2 set up and play games in between sprints. It is a formula I used on Fat Cyclist’s Ride to Nowhere. [...]
